Large Group - 500+ employees
Groups of this size are eligible for the greatest amount of plan specialization and customization. In addition, certain groups of this size are prime candidates to consider partially self funding their employees benefits.
Middle Market - 51 to 500 employees
Groups of this size have more plans and product options available to them. The value of having a professional broker negotiating your rates at this size can’t be overstated. Larger groups in this size range are often good candidates for self funding their ancillary (dental and vision) product lines.
Small Groups - 6 to 50 employees
Groups of this size start to have some bargaining power with their rates, with increasing power as the number of lives goes up. In California under Assembly Bill 1672, all group under 50 lives are subject to a variance of 10% higher or lower than the “base rate” which insurance carriers file with the California Department of Insurance.
Micro Groups - 2 to 5 employees
While our negotiating power with rates are rather limited for groups of this size, qualifying groups are eligible for “guarantee-issue” coverage. Generally speaking, you must have an owner-officer and at least one salaried employee to qualify under California state law (AB 1672).
